Indigo + Shibori Dyeing

  • Catalyst Fiber Workshop 1695 Charlotte Highway Fairview, NC, 28730 United States (map)

Across the globe, indigo has been used as a symbol of religious, political, and social identity. In this one-day workshop, we will explore the rich cultural histories of this remarkable blue dye while learning hands-on extraction techniques using locally grown indigo.

Together, we will learn how the precious blue pigment is extracted from indigo leaves and discuss the many ways cultures around the world have cultivated and used their native indigo plants. Participants will also explore a variety of traditional shibori resist techniques, creating a collection of hand-dyed fabric samples to use in future creative projects while beginning their own indigo journey.

This workshop is designed for beginners as well as anyone looking to deepen their understanding of indigo dyeing.
