Summer 2018 Classes

Growing Your Dye Garden - Saturday, June 30th, 9am-noon $50: Learn what plants you can cultivate at home that will give you beautiful colors and fun for hours! This informational class will go over how to grow and harvest over a dozen plants that can be used for natural dyes. There will be handouts, suggestions for local and online resources, and a walk in the Warren Wilson College dye garden.

Get Started with Natural Dyes - Saturday, July 14th, 10am-4pm $75: In this beginning class you will learn the basics of natural dyeing. What are mordants and how do you use them? How do you prepare the dyes so that you can use them? We will go step by step through the process and answer all questions you may have about how to do this at home. We will sample with cotton and wool.

Surface Design with Natural Dyes - Saturday, July 21st 10am- 4pm $75: In this explorative class, we will take knowledge about natural dye processes and transform them into exciting surface design techniques. We will explore various processes, from mordant printing to painting with thickened dye extracts on cotton fabrics.
